The two world leading organizations of handmade custom knives, the Knifemakers’ Guild and the American Bladesmith Society, will co-host the elite International Custom Cutlery Expo in Kansas City, Missouri, from September 22nd through the 24th, 2017. According to the Knifemakers’ Guild President, Gene Baskett, the location was carefully chosen, since the great handmade knife shows started in Kansas City, Missouri, back in the seventies.
The members of the Guild and ABS will equally share the 150 tables, where they will display their work: hunting knives, cooking knives, folders, tacticals, and art knives. In addition, some makers also venture into creating or re-creating swords, hatchets, tomahawks, or axes, some of which are historically inspired, while others are fantasy art pieces.
The Expo, which will be held at the Kansas City Marriott Hotel Downtown, will provide the largest possible assortment and selection of custom knives and related products to fulfill the growing demand from collectors, said Harvey Dean, ABS Vice Chairman. The Expo is a direct response to knife making becoming the fastest growing art form of the last decade.
